WHAT IS A CARA?

A Cara is our name for our guests. It is the Gaelic word for friend. The word Anam in our company name means Soul in Gaelic. There is an Irish tradition of having an Anam Cara, literally a Soul Friend. The Anam Cara can mean a best friend, a mentor, or a spiritual guide. For us each of our guests is a friend on the journey to well-being. We are all enjoying the experience together and we hope for longer than your stay with us. Calling everyone a guest minimizing the relationship for us. We are all Anam Caras for each other.

HOW MANY CARAS CAN THE PROGRAM ACCOMODATE?

We enjoy the benefits of a smaller group.

The Battenkill Mansion program is limited to 16 guests.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I CAN ENDURE THE PROGRAM?

Our program is designed to accommodate most fitness levels. Most of the activities are at a moderate pace and we expect people to have different levels of abilities.

Our staff has over 15 years experience in running fitness programs and can modify classes and hikes based off ability. Our health questionnaire aids us in determining if the program is right for you. Please share any concerns that you may have, so we can create the best plan of action for you.

WHAT ARE THE HIKES AND TERRAIN LIKE?

The terrain is varied. We do use established trails, but they may be rocky, wet, muddy, and brushy. Expect steep up hills and down hills on occasion. Overall, they will challenge you, but they will be accomplishable. We won’t be sending you down any double black diamond trails.

WHAT TYPES OF ANIMALS ARE ON TRAIL?

An excellent question!

The two big dangers on trail are poison ivy and ticks. We suggest wearing long pants and shirts with long socks than can be pulled up over your pants. This will help minimize ticks being able to bite.

Other animals we will most like see include: squirrels and chipmunks. We may see a snake or two, but most other animals won’t be out as much.

WHAT TYPE OF FOOD WILL I BE EATING?

We follow a whole foods, plant based diet. Our meals are composed of whole grains, including quinoa, millet, and brown rice, legumes, nuts, fruits, and lots of vegetables.

We eliminate dairy, gluten, soy, corn, alcohol, and caffeine. We use minimal fats and sugars. We are not against any of these items or animal proteins, but have found that an elimination diet can help reduce inflammation in the body, improve digestion, and help you feel better. This allows you to become more mindful of how different affect your body, so you best determine how to eat for you.

CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE ALLERGIES?

We ask that all allergies be shared with us in advance to help us accommodate them. We strongly encourage everyone with a severe allergy to carry Benedyl and/or an Epi-Pen, especially if you have a bee allergy.

If you have a severe nut allergy, our program will not be right for you.

WHAT IS THE APPROPRIATE CLOTHING AND GEAR TO BRING?

The weather can fluctuate and we will send you a full packing list prior to your arrival. The mornings will be cooler than the afternoon, so layers are appropriate. Clothing with SPF and long sleeves and pants can protect you from the sun and insect bites, including ticks.

Workout clothes are best for fitness classes. And there is no need to dress up for meals.

WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A PROGRAM LIKE THIS BEFORE?

You most likely will not be the only one!

We recognize that everyone has different experience levels and goals, and want to be supportive of your journey. Please feel free to communicate any concerns you have before, during, or after your program so we can guide you in your process.

CAN I GET HURT?

Safety is a priority for us and have a Risk Management Plan that we developed to assist us in minimizing the risk of injuries, but they still may occur. Our staff is professionally trained and equipped to handle a range of medical and environmental scenarios if they occur. Having our Caras (guests) following instructions, directions, and guidance of our expert staff, aids us in diminishing the risk of injury.

Our guests’ safety is a top priority. The instruction and guidance given during the various daily programs have been designed first and foremost with safety in mind. By simply following the instruction, direction and guidance of our expert staff, the risk of injury or incident is greatly diminished. We pay close attention to all necessary safety details, and continuously update and improve our precautionary systems and plans. Should anything out of the ordinary occur, our staff is professionally trained and equipped to handle a range of medical emergency scenarios.

WILL I LOSE WEIGHT?

Weight loss is to be expected with an increase in physical activity and diet change. Our goal is to focus more on our habits and feeling that limit our well-being than weight loss. But we expect your pants to fit better or looser.

IS THERE WIFI?

We encourage everyone to minimize their phone and internet usage. If you need to stay connected, there is Wi-Fi in the house. We will provide an Emergency Number if needed for loved ones to reach you if needed.

IS THERE A SAFE FOR VALUABLES?

Our guests and staff will be the only people with access to the lodging, but we strongly encourage you to leave your valuables at home, as we are not responsible for lost or stolen items. We will have one safe that is communal that only one staff member will have access to, but space will be limited.

IS THERE LAUNDRY SERVICE?

We do have a washer and dryer available in the house if needed, but due to the length of the program, laundry service is not included.

IS THERE FREE TIME?

We do have scheduled time throughout the day for you to go down to the pool for a swim, read, nap, or hang out.

HOW SHOULD I EXPECT TO FEEL BY THE END OF THE PROGRAM?

Amazing!

Strong!

Accomplished!

Relaxed!

Rejuvenated!

Powerful!
